The terroir
The Pessac-Léognan terroir is a renowned appellation located to the north of the Graves production area. Established in 1987, it is the youngest appellation in the Bordeaux vineyards, yet the heir to a centuries-old winemaking history.
The Graves region is considered the historical cradle of Bordeaux wines, thanks to its proximity to the city's former port. Its wines were among the first to spread the fame of Bordeaux wines across the world. It is home to the famous Château Haut-Brion, which played a major role in establishing the renown of the famous French Claret.
Today recognized as a great terroir of Graves, Pessac-Léognan brings together all the Crus Classés de Graves, and takes its name from its unique soil type.
Further south, the Sauternes vineyard is world-famous for its sweet white wines. The meeting of the Garonne and the Ciron creates a unique microclimate that encourages the development of the noble rot Botrytis Cinerea, essential for crafting these fine wines. Home to prestigious growths, including 27 Grands Crus Classés estates in 1855, the region combines tradition, expertise and heritage, making Sauternes an unmissable destination.
