Blayais & Bourgeais
The terroir
Situated on the right bank of the Gironde estuary, Europe's largest estuary, this region captivates visitors with its blonde stone villages and rich historical heritage.
Overlooking the estuary, the majestic Citadelle de Blaye, built by Vauban in the 17th century and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2008, impresses with its ramparts, underground passages and fortifications. Alongside Fort Médoc and Fort Paté, it forms the famous Verrou Vauban, designed to protect Bordeaux.
North of La Dordogne, near the Bec d'Ambès, lies the Bourgeais vineyard: the home of Malbec. Bourg-sur-Gironde, an ancient village built on a limestone rocky outcrop and now labelled a Petite Cité de Caractère, traces its origins back to Gallo-Roman times.
The vineyards of Blayais and Bourgeais offer rolling landscapes of slopes, plateaus and hills, facing the famous vineyards of the Médoc. Benefiting from the temperate influence of the estuary, these terroirs enjoy a climate favourable to viticulture and have developed a unique winemaking identity.
Here, the wines do not seek to impress, but to bring people together.
Wines of pleasure and conviviality stand alongside cuvées with character, reflecting a terroir where humanity remains at the heart of every wine.
Blending history, nature and tastings, Blayais and Bourgeais offer another way to discover the Bordeaux vineyards, at the heart of a rich and preserved heritage.
Discover characterful estates off the beaten path and meet the passionate winemakers who shape the wines of Bordeaux.
