Bordeaux

The terroir

As the world capital of wine, Bordeaux is home to France’s largest AOC vineyard area, offering a mosaic of some of the most prestigious appellations in the world, spread across the left and right banks of the Garonne and La Dordogne.

With the exception of Paris, Bordeaux is the French city that boasts the highest number of buildings protected as Historic Monuments. Renowned for its remarkable 18th-century neoclassical architectural ensemble, it has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2007. The city reveals an exceptional heritage: Saint-André Cathedral, the basilicas of Saint-Michel and Saint-Seurin, the Grand Théâtre, the majestic Place de la Bourse, as well as numerous museums, including the Musée National des Douanes, the only one of its kind in France.

Shaped by the Garonne and its maritime history, Bordeaux was the world's second-largest port after London in the 18th century. Today, the Port of the Moon still bears witness to this past and the deep bond uniting the city with its river and its openness to the world.

Elegant and vibrant, Bordeaux captivates with its heritage, gastronomy and art de vivre. It is the ideal starting point for exploring Bordeaux’s great vineyards.

Less than an hour away, the Silver Coast and the Bassin d’Arcachon extend the journey of discovery between vineyards, the ocean and local traditions.

Bordeaux, a city drawn with love, a city tailored for strolling, wandering and losing track of time.
